Hello from New Zealand

Hello. I'm Mike - originally from the UK but now living in New Zealand. I've sailed on and off over the years (on other people's boats) but only started to get serious over the last few years since hitting the big 50. Now I'm in a hurry. Over the last few seasons I've progressed from a trailer sailer to a 35ft keeler, (Lotus 10.6) but now I'm looking for something bigger (to keep family happy) and capable of offshore in the future (for possible ventures to the NZ north island and beyond?). The trouble is we're a long way from anywhere down here so we don't get many quality yachts at a reasonable price. I have seen an Elan 434 for sale which meets most of my criteria - easy to sail short-handed, family friendly, good performance and it claims to be blue water capable (but I haven't found anyone who's made a serious offshore journey in one - and you can't believe all that the sales brochure tells you!)
Looking forward to sharing info with everyone in the future.
Cheers
Mike
