SVCarolena Just look at all the power outages in Ohio, and only from the winds, no rain. It is amazing how these storm systems move. We were hit with the remnants of Hanna - about six to eight hours of heavy rain (up to 8 inches), then in a matter of minutes the skies cleared and the sun came out. During Issabel a few years ago, the docks at my marina lifted off of the pilings. It was the boats tied to the pilings at the end of the slips that actually prevented the docks from floating away!

But it has been proven time and time again. That when someone makes that statement. IT HAPPENS!!

But I don't feel so bad now... What with gustav going overhead and Ike cruising close by and we got the full effects of one and side-swiped by the other.
I had a feeling there would be a lot of wind, so I secured my boat well. The only thing I forgot to do was take the solar panel off of it, it's not attached, it just has rubber feet and sits on top of the companionway. Well, the solar panel didn't move and inch and I was surprised it was still there, but 3 docks attached to 300 slips were ripped from their moorings? Wind is funny.

leliu5th Boasun you hit the nail on the head! Why do people think they are immune to these things! I learned at a young age Murphys Law! if it can happen it will! My life has been full of ups and downs( things that are not supposed to happen to me). And I am sure there is more to come. You can never define what will or will not happen to you. EVER!!! Just be prepared and have a plan.

leliu5th Mike,
Now they have a reason to replace the docks! LMAO!!! And sweety...hurricanes can do damage for miles and miles in places you would not think it would! I have been tracking hurricanes all season and was also surprised at the damage that carried on to other states! Never underestimate Mother Nature dear.

Ike ravaged my marina! 1500 miles from shore!

Ike wrecked my marina! Holy crap I had no idea until this morning, the main three docks are wrecked! My boat was ok (lost the zipper of the main cover, that's it) I'm standing on my dock taking the pictures.

Winds rip three docks off footing, cause 2 boats to capsize in harbor : Buffalo/Erie County : The Buffalo News
