MIKEMCKEE If your battteries are in a tight space and it's hard to get to the holes to fill them I use a turkey baster, since it's long enough to get in the really hard to hit places.

Use distilled water

Thats all I wanted to say, use distilled water when topping batterys. I suppose if none was readily available collected rain water would be next safest.

SteveInMD You don't fill it to the top. The plates should be covered. The is usually two plastic tabs the protrude down into the battery. You fill it so the liquid just touches the tabs.

Adding water to batteries

i have a east penn wet cell battery i purchased in april. just popped the cap last week. the water is down about 3/4" from the very top. is this low? do i need to add water? i never checked how high it was when i first bought it so i don't know where i should be.
