Valiente Or try this stuff. I haven't painted yet, but I'll let everyone know how it goes. For me, it's two birds with one stone, as the metal foil/foam stuff tends to fail in time as the glue loses grip.

sailingdog Glad to help... I found it fitting that one of their reasons for developing this stuff was to get rid of the metal foil-based stuff you were complaining about in your first post.

eharan Sailingdog, thanks for the quick response. I did check out SPM and right now they are on top of my list. Although they are a glue concept, I'll also use fasteners, which they say is appropriate. I like the hard surface.

Engine Room Insulation

Well, the engine is out, the compartment cleaned, painted and ready to for isulation. Now the choice. In my other boat, I installed the typical insulation that has a silver foil cover, with foam then lead then foam. It worked well for insultation/sound proofing but after a few years, the foil front fell off and created a mess.

On this boat, a Slocum 43, there were panels of insultation that look similar to something you'd buy in Home Depot. It had a solid perferated surface with some type of foam and then lead. It looked to be about 1" thick. It looks like it held up for 20 years so not to bad but it needed to be replaced for various reasons.

I am looking for a product that does not use the "foil", since this has proved unreliable over time, but uses a hard surface with the appropriate suspended barriers.

Any recommendations? There are a TON of products out there but the websites present inadequate desccriptions.
