I think it would be a good idea to call Magellan. It would be pretty poor customer service to drop all support for a discontinued product. While they may not be making new firmware or updates for the unit, I don't see how they could justify not supporting their existing users at all.
Chances are pretty good that T34C is correct, since it does zoom out as well as back in.

|T34C||I don't have any experience with that unit, but sounds like it may not have enough detail to zoom in further without adding the chip. Might try contacting tech support for Magellan and asking about that. Even if they don't currently support it, there is sure to be someone there that is familiar with it.|

It zooms out
It will zoom out until you can see the entire eastern sea board of the US, but will only zoom in to a point where you can see the entire western shore of the Chesapeake Bay and the entire Potomac River, which is of no value. The system does get fixes though, and they are accurate.

|T34C||Will the unit zoom out? It could be that you are looking at the highest level of detail without the chip.|

|14432||Not sure about that particular GPS but I know that Garmin units will zoom without chips or extra software installed. You just don't get any (much) more detail when zooming in.|

I checked the search feature and didn't find one like this, so here goes:
I just bought a new boat which included a Magellan NAV 6510 GPS, which is no longer supported by Magellan, of course. Everything about it seems fine, but it won't zoom in on the map screen. Since everything else seems to work, I want to believe that this is because the system does not have any of the C-map chips with it. True? Or should the system work without the chip? The manual isn't clear on the subject.
