|badsanta||All water makers are NOT the same. Please read your directions for proper use. Don't go by what some one at the end of the dock says. Most water makers are destroyed by operator error.|

|garydory28||Are you saying that the potassium metabisulfate from the wine makers is a substitute for the proprietary products the water makers sell? How has your experience been?|

I think I have found my own answer... it appears to be sold at other wine making supply stores... it is a food grade biocide

Sodium Bisulfate Biocide
Does anyone know a good source for the chemical that I need for pickling my water maker? It uses sodium bisulfate crystals which get dissolved in water, it seems to be quite a common chemical used in the food industry. Not sure where to find it. My local wine maker supply store has potassium metabisulfate but my instinct is to stay with the chemical that has kept the water maker running well for the last 10 years or so.
I noticed the spectra water maker uses a proprietary biocide as there water makers have parts that will degrade in the presence of sodium bisulfate.
