|bubb2||I have not commented because I was thinking that you might have stern rails. I have seen the PVC holder, hose clamped to a back stay.|

|lapworth||Love the pvc but I don't have rails to mount them to. I am thinking of sticking them out over the boat and screwing them into the hull. We get some big Rocks in the bay but I never seen a spanish fish swim up the bay. Maybe one day I will be able to migrate out of the bay. The two fishing rods I use are just average trolling rods and last season I used parrachutes and shads. Had more luck with the shads even though everyone out there said use parrachutes. Here in Maryland I didn't sea any rules agianst fishing under sail ( I believe our state likes sailboats). I have been told you can't gaff, net or have more then 2 hooks on a line. Not a fan of Blue fish they eat my lures, bite my fingers and I don't even like how they taste.|

PVC rod holder
Here's the pix mentioned by SmackDaddy earlier. It's from an article by Joe Orinko in the current issue of Good Old Boat. The L- or J-shaped slot allows the weight of the reel to lock the rod in place.

|billyruffn||The photo's not very detailed, so here's a diagram of the world's cheapest rod holder.|

I doubt this needs to be said to this bunch of smelly, swarthy old salts but bring a landing net (?) or gaff hook for getting those slithery beasts on board.
I have caught blue fish in the LI Sound off our 27' sailboat and even landed a few without a net. The fish seem to know that the end is near when you get them close to the boat and have a way of dislodging the hook if you don't get them in quickly.
Two falls ago we hooked several blue fish of around 5 - 10 # while sailing in a harbor at night in my Lightning 19' sailboat. It only has about a 1-1/2 foot free board but every fish we hooked and brought up to the boat got off at the last minute (no net). The Lightning cockpit is crammed with all kinds of racing rigging (hiking straps etc.) so is not the best platform for fishing from. I was actually kind of relieved that I would not have to clean off the scales and blood from the creatures.
If you want to land them bring a net.

|smackdaddy||They outlaw it because it's just too perfect. What government can allow that?|
