Name/Paint removal

I used Easy Off about a month ago to remove the painted on name on my 1986 Newport.

The Easy Off worked very well. Be sure to wear gloves and a goggle when you do it. Just spray a generous amount on the painted on name, then wait 10 minutes. Use some rags or a sponge and the paint will melt right off. It did not hurt the gelcoat at all.

Good luck,
Barry

Hair dryer and a plastic scraper are all you need. It will come right off. I just did that this spring with vinyl that had been on for 16 years.

What product works best removing vinyl letters, after 15 years?

Name/Paint removal

A couple of things.... First off, I watched a guy use oven cleaner on the painted name on his fiberglass boat. It was messy and a lot of work, however, work it did!!! I would try the fiberglass paint remover first. Also for the new name, I would use vinel stick ons made by a sign shop that does not necessarly deal with boat names. My boat name with a contrasting boarder, my hailing port in fancy letters and my bow numbers all cost under $60. They have been on for two years and still look great. If they fall of tommarow, I will consider it money well spent and do the same thing all over again.
Good Luck and happy sailing

This oven cleaner nonsense is an urban legend, I''ve tried it and it pales in comparison to "Fibreglass paint remover" tada! Read the label, follow the directions and voila, no name! I would use the high quality vinyl (peel and stick) for the new name.

Don''t forget the proper ceremony when renaming. Here''s one (there are many).

Remove the lettering with Easy Off Oven Cleaner.
If the paint has been on a long time, you may see a shadow of the old name .... will eventually fade in sunlight.

Hey,

I have a C22 with the name painted on the sides of the hull near the stern...don''t like the lettering or the name.

What will clean the paint off, without hurting the gelcoat of the fiberglass hull?

THX in advance...

Garrett
