Wireless electronics outfitting
My girlfriend has finally allowed me to buy a sailboat with the caveat that I am not allowed to spend over a certain amount which has put me in the position of spending less on the boat knowing that I will be spending more to fix it up. The boat on which I have set my heart is in fair condition (some soft spots on top) but has had most of the electronics removed which I am seeing as a fantastic opportunity to get some neat toys, I mean tools.
I am immediately in the market for a new depth sounder, and knotmeter with an eye toward adding radar, and GPS afterwards. My main concern is that these things all be able to work together. I have been leaning toward the Raymarine gear. I just read a quick review of one of the wireless systems (not made by Raymarine) and was wondering if anyone could relate any good or bad experiences they have had with wireless systems and could steer me toward one brand or, even better yet, model that would be suitable for a 35'' cruising boat. In an ideal world, I would be able to add components later on including a laptop with navigation software.
