Wow, joe. Fantastic job on that boat. Love that you're in MN, too (I live in Burnsville).

I'm thinking about removing the keel on my venture 17 to do some rebuilding. Any tips on how you went about it when you did the rebuild? Anything I should watch out for (aside from killing myself?)

How did you do the keel rebuild?

Re: Venture 17 restoration

Well at least you won't see another boat with the same name.

Re: Venture 17 restoration

its now called the "Banana Hammock" because I thought that was funny at the time. Gets a lot of weird looks in NC. Unfortunately, i barely get to sail it since I moved to California just after the boat was finished- But my buddy has been sailing it around and even taken it several miles offshore in NC.

Awesome! Looks sharp. I miss that boat. I don't use my 21 nearly as much as I used that 17. I think you have to be a member here for a certain amount of time or make so many posts before you can post links. Prevent spammers from joining and posting dirty stuff.

So what's its name now?

this forum makes it impossible to share anything, anyway try copying and pasting the link above in your browser and then maybe add the htttp:// ( have to put 3 T's in there to fool the post, because this forum will not let me post any "links" for some reason)... I guess it picks up on any thing that looks like a web address. anyway i bought the boat for 1700$ and put about 1k into it. Results were good.

I know this was a few years back now, but what an amazing job. Wow. How long did it take?

Venture 17 restoration

Anyone still subscribed to this? I sold my 17 and bought a V21. The guy who bought my V17 had big plans to repaint and reupholster - at last update he was well on his way and it was looking good. I'm amazed at the number of parts that fit both boats - the rudder/tiller are identical. (Unless one of my boats had the wrong one when I got it). Teak hatch rails are the same, V-berth cushions are darn close - with the 17 actually being a bit bigger - more flared out at the bow. The 21 does have a bigger "sitting area" in the cabin, and more headroom. It also has a fiberglass liner instead of a bare floor/hull inside. (Not sure if that's a good thing or not)

The cockpit is longer too. The mast is the same extrusion but longer (so you could make a V17 "tall rig" if you wanted to)

Bow pulpit looks familiar but I didn't measure.

Just keep that in mind if you need 17 parts - a 21 may have them!

The trailers were deceivingly similar, but not the same. The 17 trailer was as wide as a typical car. The 21 trailer was too wide to fit on a car trailer - it was quite a rig to tow home.
