Regatta Pointe Marina

I made a deal with these people before I came here to clean the bathrooms for a slip. When we finallized the deal, me and Rojas, it was a slip and $150 a month, paid on the 15th. Then I was introduced to Klaus and was informed that meant 7 days a week. Being a Christian, and seeing Rojas trembling like a dog passing peach pits, I didn''t call her on it at the moment, fearing her job may be on the line and not wishing to torpedo her for something that could be worked out later. For the next two months I mentioned that working the Sabbath was something that comcerned me, more precisely, that working seven days a week with no days off since I''d gotten there was not my understanding of the deal, especially when dealing with ''Christians''.
Klaus threw his hands up and said "Are we only supposed to hire heathens for our business!?" Of course it''s an idiotic statement.

Klaus hired a ''minister/counsellor'' as part of the staff, and there is not a shred of doubt in my mind that this ''Christian'' was advised to aim straight for me and ''tune me up''. I found his ''sessions'' comical and pathetic. He''d come with the mission of re-educating a stray sheep who was evil in many ways and thought I couldn''t see. Finally, I revealed to him that I realized his adgenda and didn''t care, because he needed my help more than I needed his and I was happy to help him. I told him his employers would hang him out to dry. He didn''t believe me and swore that all communications between us were confidential and went no further. I squeezed a lemon into the conversation, saying something I hadn''t mentioned to anyone else, anywhere.
The next morning, I was hustled into a quick meeting with Rojas and Klaus. He started talking and I smelled lemon, as simple as that. I told him that he shouldn''t hang misspelled scripture out there. The put "God''s only forgotten son" where it should have been "begotten". I told him people were dissatified with the marina management, and even saw them as hypocritical. He demanded names. Instead, I brought up my seven day schedule. He said he never made anyone work a full day on Sunday. I asked him to show me in the Bible where working half a day was not considered working on the Sabbath. He said Virgil, the new dockmaster said everyone at the marina liked it here and no one ever complained, and I, who was ''supposed'' to be a Christian, was saying people were complaining, so he was going to have to believe Virgil, and I had to be out of the marina by the 15th of November. So, I''m out. Now, I want my check, the money they owe me. Guess what? A new deal is being fashioned by Rojas in which I don''t get it. I''m not surprised. I mention it to some friends and she freaks out, takes the keys swearing and yelling and kicks me out again.

Well, I''m sick of hearing myself. I''m going away and not looking back. By the way, right after the meeting, I told a friend about Klaus claiming he never heard a complaint, and the friend told me to look here. What a surprise. And if bwalker is actually Laura Rojas, I suspect I''ll know it REAL soon.

Believe it, or not, yes. Everyone else (but one worker) has either left, or been fired. The management is left standing among the ruins ... for now.

So, I''m curious. The last post was in August. Is that same "management team" in place as of October?

In other words, you were at a well run marina. Something Regatta Pointe cannot, even remotely, claim. Of the many problems, one major one is that the staff has NO knowledge of marinas or boating. Details, details. They solve their incompetency problem with hostility and aggression. Lovely traits.

The last marina I was in had requirements for lines during Hurricane season - 2 stern and bow with minimum sizes for boat sizes. Fail to have them, and the marina would board your boat and add more lines, and charge you.

Also, there were emergency pumps on each dock, with available fuel supplies. These pumps were started at least every other month and fuel checked. The fire hoses checked and replaced every other year. And of course they had 24 hour security with guards that had radios, to call for help if there was trouble.

In other words, they were generally prepared for what came along.

I don''t know if people stuck around during a storm, but I assume they did - just knowing them, and knowing that some of them worked at that marina for 20 years or more.

There is an emergency pump here, but no one knows when it was last started, and there is no fuel supply (the motor is probably solid varnish by now). There are no fire hose, no one ever checks anything....

I don''t think I will be staying past the end of my lease - assuming any marinas have open slips.... Lots of waiting lists suddenly. Hmmm.

Hi Visitor! I understand what you are saying and it is a shame about some marinas. I came from another marina were being prepared is a year long on going thing and the dockmaster is on top and has a lot of knowledge. We (liveaboards)did and do look out for each other but we are use to having imput from our dockmaster and his crew. There are things that you can forget in the heat of the moment and a good marina team is there to help us out. As for the security yes we do need it here! We have all kinds of people just wandering around and the police do what they can but these people have not done the amount of crime or damage to vehicles, stores, and people because the word was out of our security guard plus they new he was there he was visible and did what he had to do and has stopped many thngs from happening. He will be sorely missed. And they are putting the cameras on top of the buildings to protect the real estate and the h---with the boaters! This used to be a wonderful marina..

What is your point (no pun intended) ? You are describing marinas up and down the coast. The storm preparations on ours consisted of having someone ask if the boat was staying or not and picking up any loose objects on the dock and then they high tailed it out of there. The security on ours consist of the live aboards who watch out for each other and everybody''s boats. Your location in Palmetto does deserve some kind of security. If things get bad at Regatta Pointe we will by pass it in future trips.

Hi Nastybilge! Let us out of our lease????She should pay us to live here! I mean look at the hurricane preperations Friday! I heard people asking who was here in charge for the people who were going to wait it out and our fearless marina people had walked the docks (looking very official) LOL and then high tailed it out of here! The dockmasters at the other marinas stayed put and said they were not abandoning there people or their watch. There was no real preperation because they did not know what to do! We all worked together and with the luck we are here to complain! It would be nice to have someone in charge like Tom and Kathy and we could have our marina back!!!!!

soaringwind3 - you don''t have to wait until the lease is up. Just tell the witch you''re unhappy there and she will let you out of your lease. She did it for some who have already left.

Lack of night security...hasn''t happened yet, but it is just a matter of time.

Oh, and don''t put a lot of faith in the cameras identifying who attacked you. The cameras will be on the buildings, not on the docks. I mean be fair, do you want to protect the boaters or the real estate? Well, what do you think they want to protect?
