Freesail99 I pay $725 per season. That rate includes the use of the jack stands and the travel lift to put me back in. It is also ok to work on your boat while on the hard.

Heh-heh. I'm joking about the carpet. But I am definitely going to talk to Jeff_H about the possibility of adding some wicked hydraulics fore and aft so I can get that lowrider thing going while cranking Vanilla Ice at raft-ups. You guys will just be green with envy while I'm bow-bouncing around the marina. Sway even said he'd loan me his gold "grill"!

bluwateronly Putting carpet over teak in a boat. I guess to each his own. But, before you do it think hard think long. I have checked out redoing my sole and it does not seem like something I can't do, and man is there lots of info on how on this site. Carpet can and will get wet, hide dirt, smell not to mention looks like sh**. However, it's your boat just trying to help you make a good decision Sounds like you are moving up already congrats you can go far in a boat that size if set up right.

CharlieCobra I found a nice yard up here that charges long term storage for anything over 6 weeks and will let ya work on it. Oh Joy measures 39' LOA and costs me $228 per month. That folks is very rare up here....

blt2ski Smack,

Some yards depending upon some things, will do a haulout and storage for free, "IF" they are doing some of the work. Not $1 out of every $100, but if they are doing the work they make money at, say bottom paint, etc, you do the waxing, or some other stuff, not a big deal. At least a yard I pulled at north of me was that way 2 yrs ago. I was on the hard a month for free. But I was out the door some $5G in work related fee's too! ie bottom paint, repair rusty iron keel, install new ST60 intruments etc........

smackdaddy Well now it's starting to sound like I'd be getting a sweet deal at $300. The boats I'm looking at are in the 40'-45' range and these guys have the same rate up to 50'.

PS - Blue, I'm sure it will be both. Depending on the boat I end up with - I know I'll want to have a bottom job and will probably have the yard do some other stuff. I'll check to see if they'll throw me a bone while they're working on it.

BlueWaterMD Is this for actual storage or to work on the boat. Here in Tampa 12.50/ft for the haulout and relaunch. $35/day for storage while doing your own work. Less if the yard is doing the work ($15 I think, but am not sure).

blt2ski If you're talking actual work space on the hard........my local is .90 per foot per day. So my 30'r is $27 per day, and $810 per month! Dry storage is about the same. No discount if the boat is being working in the marina either. Lift and pressure wash is about $200, then they charge to install the tarps under, and around if painting. Then again, from what I have heard, they are the most expensive place in Washington too.

hellosailor If you're not being charged by the square foot...the yard owner is a Communist.

Charging everyone the same thing, regardless of how much they are using, just ain't right either. A yard's only real asset is real estate, bought and taxed by the square foot (acre, whatever) and that's what you are "consuming" when you park a boat on it, so why not pay for what you are using--and nothing more?

Of course, that assumes you're in a state when the yard owner is able to DO simple math. I suppose it would be easier if they all just stopped at "tha-ree". (VBG)
