Re: Sailnet Suggestion Box

can you add a section in the gear and maintenance just for "Sails" or a thread all by its self. It is the most important piece of equipment we have on the boat!!

Re: Sailnet Suggestion Box

It's starting again. Too many subfora, subgroups, sub-discussions. Billyruffian just had an interesting post about a close quarters encounter with a ferry. Many people can identify with that situation. He posted it in "vessels in danger", wondering if it was the right category, since his boat wasn't really in danger. As some above have mentioned, if the forum is split out into monohulls vs catamarans vs trimarans, and then further into specific brands of each of them, it stops being a forum, traffic drops, and it dies. Splitting off every possible variant defeats the purpose of the site. I have a diesel engine, so diesel issues are of potential interest. If the diesel postings are split out between Volvo, Westerbeke, Cummins, Detroit, Faryman and Yamar, I am not going to search through each sub-site to see if the question raised might pertain to me as well. If all the questions are funneled onto an "Auxiliary Engines" section, I am more likely to check it out, and possibly respond to posters -- even if I don't have the same brand as them. That is what a forum is supposed to do: create a nexus of communication to help solve problems. In another example, lots of people have had their children on their boats, and know various ways to keep them safe, occupied and happy. Their children are grown now, so they never look at the separate subsection on sailing with children. This deprives the forum of the insights that might come out if the issues were posted in the "general" section, where they'd be seen by more people. Arguments that Sailnetters set their computers to simply show any new posts, regardless of the topic, are leaky in my book. If someone has a question about sail trim and posts the same thing in "general" and in "racing", which will be answered first and have the most replies? Instead of trying to divide up all the topics into little tiny boxes that provide responses from a few like-minded souls, why not generalize as much as possible so as to get the most varied possible exchange of ideas about sailing? That way we all benefit.

Re: Sailnet Suggestion Box

Thanks all; other forums have a way to size all photos/****** to a standard size. Therefore, elimanting the horizontal scrolling.

Now if i could figure out how to get spell check to work on a linux set up , thanks to my son.

The Interesting Sailboat thread might be a good example.

You can see that some pages expand so much when large photos are uploaded and it forces users to scroll horizontally.

Telling members to not upload photos of that size will not work. It's going to have be controlled another way. I think what bene is asking is if there's some way the software can prevent it or force an upload into a standard size.

Could you please stop that pop up for an "lovoo?" chat app on the iPad...
It is really unsettling me and very annoying...
While i understand that you need to finance this marvelous page, i hate that the device suddenly and consistantly switches to some advert... Which i than have to cancel and open the browser again!

Since I've made the suggestion, I'll volunteer to find threads and flag 'em for y'all to move, would that work? IIRC there's that little triangle thingie to flag for moderators and in the note I could say 'please move this' or some such

PS: get me now, before the weather gets better
