sailortjk1 Look us up when you are on Lake Macatawa.
We are at Eldean's Z-46. There are a couple of us from Holland and some more further up the Lake.
Also, I sail with another member on Gull Lake which is a great sailing lake for the beginner.
Good luck to you.

kwaltersmi Welcome aboard Jeff. I too am teaching my kids (and myself!) to sail on the waters of Lake Michigan. We're having a blast!!!

Sailnet is a great resource for learning and sharing, so we hope you stay a while.

JeffG1 Thanks for the welcome MGM, I've lurked here a while and looks like a great bunch of people. I'll teach the kids on some local inland lakes then head to Lake Macatawa in Holland or Muskegon Lake which both channel to Lake Michigan.
One of my fondest memories as a kid was my Dad towing my 10' styrofoam sailing dinghy behind his sailboat out into Lake Michigan and turning me loose. Calm seas on Lake Michigan are wild in a 10' dinghy. A 40' or so sailboat overtook me and the man at the helm said "Lookin' good!" as I rode the waves. Fun times I hope my kids will get to experience.

mgmhead Jeff,

As an ex-Michigander, born and raised, WELCOME to SailNet. Interesting group of characters here and it is likely one or more will have information regarding the Island 12. Sadly, I do not.

Where will you be sailing your Islands 12, local lake or Great Lakes? Lake Michigan? One of the bays?

Have fun...MGM

Hello from Michigan

Hello,
I'm in the West Michigan area and just purchased a little daysailer to teach my kids to sail. I can't find any information on and hoping some of the experienced people here can help.
It is an Islands 12. A little 12' sloop with main and jib. The only info I can find based on the hull ID# is the company that manufactured this boat was Ocean Yachts based in New York State. Company went out of business in 1981.
The boat is in pretty good shape for it's age with just a few cosmetic blemishes.
If anyone has any photos of one or any literature/brochure it would make my day. Hope it's OK to post this here, please move if another forum would be more appropriate.
Thanks and looking forward to any replies.
Jeff
