Footnote to this thread - this boat had a problem with the throttle cable. It was rigged oddly to join a second cable. The cable would relax after a bit, maybe in a turn but sometimes it just happened. After fixing the cable it just runs.

The fuel tank is level and sits under a setee.
It's a steel tank that is fiberglassed in place.
I could be wrong but I don't think plastic tanks are legal for inboards?

Won't this pick up tube come out of the tank? I had similiar problem with my cat. We pulled the tanks and the pick up was full of goo. We had to blow it out once out of the tank. There were all kinds of particles in the tanks.
Including some kind of paper. The tanks are plastic, and this could be seen through the walls. I checked the tanks before periodically, and never noticed this stuff floating. I think the fuel dock was pumping up what was left in a nearly empty tank? Is it possible there is some sludge accumulating on that side of the tank? Does it sit at an angle??????......i2f

To insure that the problem was with the tank we ran the engine off a five gallon fuel jug.
What really surprised me was how fast that fuel can drained -- it was empty in minutes because the return line was still in the original tank.
It was then I realized that with an electric fuel pump the fuel is being continuously run through the filters and back into the tank.
So, with a setup like mine, fuel polishing should not be necessary.
There is something in the tank that blocks the pickup tube.
It only happens when making a hard left turn.
I can spin in circles making a hard right with no problems.
Raising the pickup tube ½ inch eliminates the problem.
It looks like the tank will have to replaced.
Does anyone have a better (and cheaper) idea?

Also make sure the pickup on the polishing unit is at the bottom or as close to the bottom of tank as possible. I took the fuel sending unit out of my tank and put the intank hose through there. You will not believe the crap that comes out. But then my tank had probably never been cleaned!! Maintain clean tank with approiate additives. Your engine will thank you for it.

|Martinini||I just helped a friend with his 69 50' Columbia with a steel tank. Yours is probably steel or Corten steel which looks like it's rusted all the time. Find a fuel polishing rig to rent or a mech. who has one and put StarTron Enzyme Fuel Tank Cleaner into a full tank and let it sit for a week. then hook up the fuel polishing unit and run it until it's giant Racors quite stopping up and you will then Have a clean tank that won't have crud in it. But DON'T do this without the fuel polisher because it will stop up normal sized filters for a long time and always at the wrong time! I am in the process of doing this now. Also I don't trust anything a Surveyor says anymore! Any Yutz who takes a class can be one. Mine missed things like No Discharge placards right under main elec. panels almost at eye level in companion way bulkhead.|

|imagine2frolic||I never even got the new tank installed. I sold the business, and left for Imagine who was sitting in St. Maarten. I sold Frolic with the new aluminum tank sitting below the sette.....i2f|
