The track is for a Jiffy reefing system. It allows you to move the outhaul for the aft reef point depending on where/ which reef you are using (1st or 2nd). You want your outhaul to be down and aft to maintain good sail shape. It also allows for different sails with different dimensions to be used without having to bolt a new point onto the boom.
If your sails aren't to large you can do a single line reefing system as shown here.

|Mc51||I think cam cleat in the first picture is part of your outhaul system. I don't have a clue what the track is for in the second picture.|

Quick Boom Question
I'm trying to sort out the system on my boom before I splash in (Sooner than later hopefully). I think it may have been set up for lazy jacks at some point. If you look at picture 1, there's a block missing from the downhaul setup I believe. The track and block system in picture 2 is for the reefing system, I'm fairly certain. Just curious if anyone who knows better than I do can agree with my thoughts, or I'm totally missing the logic of how to set things up... Thanks in advance
