That is one beautiful boat. I grew up around wooden boats, I love the looks, feel, and smell of wooden boats.. I just do not have the time to take of them like they deserve

Don't worry.. it happens to plastic boats too. Mine is 50 years old this year and suffering from "previous owneritus" with questionable wiring, odd screws drilled through the glass from outside to hold in shelves, and juwst general shabbiness.

Re: A not so nice refit surprise...

thats the price you pay for previous owners who do not think things thru...or do work to get by the issue facing them.

CharlieCobra Yep...

sailingdog Mike—

Charlie got a great deal on this boat IIRC, something ridiculous like $20 or so..

CharlieCobra Oh I'll finish her alright and enjoy her for a while. The thought of restoring a nice 50+ ft schooner has a certain appeal though....., nah...

Oh no you don't! You need to finish Oh Joy, enjoy her for a while before you start your next project. Your next project boat should be for somebody else who is willing to pay you an obscene amount of money for your craftsmanship and expertise in restoring classic yachts which you will then blow on varnish and canvas for Oh Joy.

CharlieCobra I wasn't looking for a wooden boat but this one found me, literally. After sailing her through a force 10 storm on her maiden voyage, I wouldn't trade her for a plastic boat, at least I don't think I would... Having more room would help though. Maybe I can find a bigger classic eh?

TheFrog Charlie,

I am admiring your work and work ethic. I know she will be wonderful when you are done, but following this just reminds me of why my boat has almost no wood.

Good luck.
