I always wanted to go to Antarctica. Your photos and descriptive narration only reinforce that. What a sense of adventure in doing it yourself instead of a "packaged" tour. I don't know if I could ever get my wife to do that with me.
You should think about submitting some of your work to NG, or other publication, as the pictures are truly breath taking.

And I didn't have to pay!
The best things in life 'are' free. That was great. Thanks!

My now-dead father was in this part of the Antarctic whaling in 1947. I have the tooth of a sperm whale from his time there as a souvenir. In later years, he regretted his brief experience whaling, particularly the sheer volume of blood, flesh and the Dantesque environment of a factory ship, but I thank you for showing me landscapes he very likely saw with his own eyes many years before I was born.

|jrd22||This is probably the most incredible cruising report I've seen on Sailnet. Thanks very much for sharing it with us Craig.|

"Behind us, unforgiving rock and breaking waves awaited us should the anchor have failed. Had we dragged and the bow wiped off, we would never have been able to bring the bow around into the wind before ending up driven ashore. Fortunately, the Rocna anchor did its job true to reputation."
