Sabreman We always stop off at Solomons; did it last week on the way to Annapolis for Gov Cup. Zahnizers is the best IMHO; watch out for the place immediately inside the harbor near the UMD Research facility. Cheap, but run down.

chef2sail Little Choptank is a great stop off place, we have done thasn many times on our trips south. It is out of the way across the bay though. Solomons is the perfect 1/2 way point.

tri413 I second Tod's suggestion. The stretch from Potomac to Deale is LONG and there are no good stop after PAX. I did Potapsco to PAX in a long day, so get an early start, time the flood if possible and Annapolis should be a breeze!

Gladrags1 Instead of going from Saint Marys to Herrington Harbour which is some 68nm, I would suggest going to Solomons (42nm) and then to Annapolis (50 nm). In Solomons, you could either stay at one of the many marinas or anchor out. If you prefer to get a bit further up the Bay, pass Solomons and head into Hudson Creek, off the Little Choptank River. There are some nice snug anchorages (no services) in there. However, that is about 60 nm which is quite a distance.

Good luck and good luck in the race!

sck5 knapp's narrows has a marina with a bulkhead just before the drawbridge. well protected and not too expensive. its a bit more than halfway for you but it has easy access from the bay and decent facilities. I stopped there on the way from Solomon's to Rock Hall last month and it was perfect for an overnight.

Potomac River to Annapolis.

I'm looking for a transient slip or quiet anchorage to overnight somewhere around 1/2 way during the trip. I'm not familar with anything on the eastern shore, but am open to all suggestions. Reason being, I'm doing the Gov Cup this year and want to sail the boat up instead of trailering her up. So I'm debating on leaving from St. Mary's at 6am and sailing straight to Herrington Harbour, and then finishing the trip the next day from there. I'd prefer the longer of the 2 days to be first. Any suggestions that won't take me too far out of the way?
