kpdii A guy I showed the boat to a month ago shot me an email yesterday and he is still interested in buying. Talking with him, it would be giving the boat a good home, so hopefully we can work something out.

Paul, if this doesn't work out, I will give you a call, you helped me a lot last summer with advise, and I really apprecite it, glad you got back to Texas.

I changed jobs during the winter and as positive as the new job is, this boat doesn't fit in the equation. We are going to get something small and portable to play with, but nothing with the time/money commitment a boat of this size needs.

bubb2 If Paul would given the boat what a gift the boat is getting. I mean a owner who knows how to and would take care of her. It's the best thing that could happen to either one of them.

Stillraining Hey I will vouch for Paul...hes a good egg and deserving of a gift like that. Hope it works to everyone's advantage.

sailingtime I do not know if they in Texas but the Sea Scouts would be a great organization to contact. Sea Scouts, BSA It is part of the Boy Scouts so they share the same aims and goals but on the water. It should be a very simple process. You contact through their web site and they put out the call to their groups. They might not be in the Dallas area but I am sure they might be on the Gulf. For a good boat they might travel far for one.

kpdii I didn't have a price, I was looking to trade down to a trailerable boat or best offer. I said I paid $4100, and wasn't expecting to get all (or most) of it back. Showed it three times, it just wasn't what the people looking wanted.

Honestly it takes at least 3 hours to show the boat, and I don't want to deal with that. We are selling because I don't have the time to sail and maintain, and I don't have the time to keep showing it either. Money isn't as important as the fact I just don't want to deal with it anymore.

I don't have a trailer so I dont think I have what the Houston guy would want, I am 300 miles from there.

Thanks

scottyt if you cant sell it you might be asking too much. what are you asking?

donating will give you a tax break of about 1/3 of the value, depending on your tax bracket. so you can lower you sale price to 1/3 the value and be about even.

now somebody here was looking for a boat around houston a week or so ago try to track them down.

here it is

Donating my boat

We are wanting to let go of our '77 Newport 28 on Lake Texoma (an hour north of Dallas). I have only had it a year, and I don't have time to sail and maintain it like I thought I would. I have had it on craigslist for the past month and have shown it three times. Honestly I don't have the time to keep showing it, and it's not worth enough for the broker at my marina to want to deal with.

I am to the point I know I won't get my money out of it, and I just don't want to deal with it anymore. Does anyone have experience with donating your boat. The few places I know of, want to deal with trailer boats.

Any suggestions?
