deniseO30 was the old one transom mounted with grudeones and pintles? I'd suggest not using aluminum for anything. Seems to me you can buy generic rudders for smaller boats. I'm sure you checked with foss foam at » About Us

1973 O’Day 22 rudder dimensions and construction

I am considering making a rudder for my O’day 22. I lost mine prior to pulling my boat for the season. I am currently out of work and have the time. I could also save on the $850 replacement cost. This is the solid rudder. Not the kick-up type.

Does any one have a lead to the dimensions? Any one close enough to me willing to let me stop by and take measurements?

Any ideas on construction? I am considering an aluminum tube frame with plywood/pvc fins for the profile and a foam filler. Then cover w/thin sheeting and fiberglass.

IYHO, is this worth my time? Am I asking for trouble?
