How about Saijazz?

It isn''t the money. It''s the community. I will show up where the majority lands, and in the meantime I''ll cast my lot with Sailnet. That''s where I started. Lee

From the Charleston Post and Courier:

"...Bankruptcy Trustee Kevin Campbell said his office will dig deeper into the company''s history in coming months, looking for signs of possible embezzlement or large chunks of cash going to nonoperational items. The venture capitalists who bankrolled MarineNet have hired a company to do similar research. Campbell said his office would likely question the Boyles in coming months."

That doesn''t sound too good to me. Nothing against the Boyle''s, but I think I''ll wait a couple of months before thinking about signing up for their service.

I don''t think I will ever pay a subsciption to read a messageboard. I have purchased from Sailnet because of this board and was looking at buying during the meltdown, but I fortunately found out about the shipping issues before I sent in my Visa number.
Aside from the messageboard here, I enjoyed reading the articles on the site and I have purchased many of the books written by them.

Who is to say it won''t be just like the "Old Sailnet". I may be wrong, but when the old owners of a bankrupt company get out of one venture then jump right back into the same game under a different non-bankrupt name, it really worries me. I don''t think I will have anything to do with the "Old" company under a different name. Let''s allow the old crew to "just fade away" and start new with Marine.com. At least we will probably get our merchandise.

Just FYI, the "our team" listing is that of MindDrivers LLC (not the marine.com staff insofar as I can tell). MindDrivers LLC appears to be a venture capital firm (despite their claims to the contrary) that installs their own management personnel into the acquisitions for which they arrange (broker) financial investors. Not at all an unusual arrangement insofar as private equity investment in commercial acquisitions.

Well now we know. The ride continues.

I also got the same message by e-mail this morning, I would guess we all did.

I just got this nice e-mail from the new owners of Sailnet. That will teach me to jump to a conclusion.

Pre-Press Release: marine.com and SailNet tie the knot (a bowline of course!)
Date: Tuesday November 1, 2005

We want you, our Community, to know first.

It is with great pleasure and lots of excitement that we announce a new Captain at the helm of your SailNet Community. After several months in the doldrums, the southern winds have propelled SailNet north to merge with marine.com. Providing boaters with name-brand products and top-rated service since 1997, marine.com is one of the Web''s leading e-commerce sites.

Sailnet''s decade-long legacy of serving the sailing community will continue. The interactive forums, articles and other links on the SailNet.com website are operational today. Over the next couple of weeks we will re-launch an upgraded website, activate the SailNet email lists and introduce you to a new and expanded sailing store.

Most importantly, with the solid backing of marine.com, access to the SailNet Community continues to be FREE.

The New Crew is fully committed.
We value your continued support of the SailNet Community which has been recognized as "Best of the Web" for content, resources and community four years in a row by Forbes Magazine. SailNet''s new Crew understands that it is because of you that this recognition has been bestowed.

We would like to hear your thoughts on the SailNet Community and your suggestions for future enhancements. Please visit www.sailnet.com to contact us. We look forward to serving your needs.
