There's no truer statement than "beauty is in the eye of the beholder...", but I'd be interested in understanding what's really catches your eye here. There are a lot of good 30 footers kicking around for 10 grand - this boat might be an excellent candidate for playing dodgem-cars, but not so hot for real life sailing. FWIW PHRFNE rates the Contest 30 at 222, versus 174 for the benchmark Pearson 30. A minute a mile is a big difference, also know as dog slow. You could consider the a boat like a Tartan 30:

All other things being equal, for less money you can buy a sailing classic that puts a smile on any sailor's face...and spend more time sailing versus put-putting.
If this Contest speaks to you in a compelling way, assuming no significant replacements/upgrades are overdue (just a few of which could make this boat worth nothing), I'd suggest to not offer more than $5k and let the broker think about it - as befits its character, I don't think this vessel is going any where too quickly at $10K.

The Contest 30 was built in 1969-70. The 25 & 29 were built in 1967 & 1968, then the 27 & 30 in '69 &'70. VERY strongly built, with NO core, 1" hand-laid fiberglas at the water line, 5/8" at the rail. Original engine a a MARSTAL 1cyl gas unit. Very stable, just under 50% ballast/displacement ratio. While the 25 & 29 has spruce spars, the 27 & 30 had Aluminum ones, made by Sparlite in England. Lots of room below deck (until you go forward, then learn to duck!). My 27 is Hull #2, 6ft 2 inch headroom in the main cabin, then DUCK 4 ft 7 inch thru to the head (stb) / hanging locker (Port), then a huge V-Berth. The only down-sides are gate valves on all thru-hulls, cast iron ballast (encapsulated), and OUCH! low headroom fwd of the main cabin. Pluses: STABLE, Lots of storage space, real chart table, Extreme engine accessiblity, and roomy below decks. All in all, a nice boat, built to take the seas.

Need a bit of quick input on this boat
A 1970 contest 30 in Cape Cod. Looks like it was made by a solid company in Holland from what I found on the web and my assumption is that it is a solid glass boat. Any other info? Also it doesn''t appear to come with any electronics.
Anyone sailed one of these? Has a modified fin keel and a skeg hung rudder.
