You don't suppose those guys with rpg's in Somalia would know about this site, do you? It will be nice to use next season to help avoid tugs and other traffic around here-- you should be able to access it from your Blackberry pretty easily.
The Somalia comment is the first reaction that I had to. Good thing though is that you can turn off the transmitter when you are operating in certain areas.
That page was a great find. Too bad I won't have access to it when out on the water.
Wow - now all we need is reasonably priced satellite internet access so that we can pick this up from the boats and we'll be in great shape. That should come in the next few years.
If we only had something that shows logs floating in the Hudson river - especially on moonless nights. I've hit two of those suckers in the last three years, with not inconsequential damage.
I've had the site on my PC and just tried it on my iPhone. Unlike on the PC I can't get the vessel info to pop up. Maybe somebody will create an App for it someday. No biggie as I just bought an ICOM MXA5000 AIS from Defender for a show price of $412. It's a receiver only model but that's all I was looking for.
Too bad for those poor Somali pirates, I don't see any ships sailing in their waters...
