I am new to this forum and new to sailing.
Back when I was in Boy Scouts (30+ years ago), I really enjoyed sailing Sunfish's on lakes at camp. I never sailed again until this summer but always wanted to get back into it.
Early this summer, I found a Sunfish on craigslist and knowing I was going to be vacationing for a week on a small New Hampshire lake, I picked it up. I read a few books to refresh my memory on things like points of sail, terminology, etc. and had a blast that whole week on the boat. But, I quickly realized that a Sunfish was too small. I could take my wife on it, or my son, but not both. I needed a bigger boat.
After much research, all things pointed to a trailerable boat about the size of an O'Day Mariner (19' CB - 1968 model). Well, wouldn't you know, one came up for sale locally on craigslist. A few weeks later, and that was in my fleet.
I plan on doing some maintenance on the Mariner over the winter, and will sail her on NH lakes next season. I also want to take lessons, and there seems to be a few choices considering I am not too far from Boston (or Maine).
I look forward to learning more about sailing, fixing up my boat (since named "Abigail"), and getting out on the water. I am sure the SailNet community will be a big help.
