Garmin 440 New Prices

Sounds about right. West Marine is selling the 440s (includes sonar fish finder input) for just over $400 through Monday, $450 after that. I'm not sure if that price includes the transducer. I used a 440 on a friend's boat for a long sail. He likes it. It works well and is easy to use, but the screen is pretty small. You can't take everything in with just a glance if you wear variable bifocals like I do. You need to look hard at it for 2 or 3 seconds, and that changes your focus a lot from the horizon. Do that repeatedly for a few hours and your eyes get pretty tired.

eherlihy I can't find that old post referenced above.... but that is my recollection....

eherlihy I would also be VERY careful about buying any Garmin product from eBay. in a post that I made loong ago, I quoted an FAQ from Garmin that products bought through eBay are NOT supported by Garmin. This is a big deal if the unit uses any software to interface with a PC.

anemoneii I got a email today from West Marine, 440S is $449 + 10% off until monday, That would be $404, I wouldn't pay more than 1/2 for used electronics.

You will need the vision chip +/- $300 for your area. Great machine for the price. Small screen.

arf145 We've got the Garmin 545 which is the 1-inch bigger cousin of the 440. Definitely not junk--we love it. Can't suggest what you should bid though.
