bobmcgov If it were a garden basket, it would be a trug. The arch is for towing waterskiers.

Presumably these composite people know their business, but I'm imagining the racking forces on that arch during a crash jibe will be immense, no?

krozet I don't mind the arch, looks nice to me. Would I base my decision to buy a boat on that feature? No. Would I turn down a nice deal on a boat with an arch? No. It is just an aesthetic choice like teak deck or the bronze winches...

But then you'd have to cover them up when the dockmaster comes by looking for moorage....

I go back and forth between wanting to say I've got a 50-foot boat, and being happy to save the money on slip/winter storage fees by being able to say I'm a foot shorter. (Just kidding on all this of course.)

Joking aside, there must have been some marketing mojo on this. Our boat is the B49, but in Europe they called it the Oceanis 50. Now here in the states, they've changed from the B49 to the B50. All are the exact same boat (save for the addition of the arch). There must have been an initial view that Americans would be less likely to buy it if it were called a "50," which appears to have changed considering the new branding of the B49 with Arch as the B50. Who knows.

SecondWindNC Yeah, you're right, don't really like the look.

But if one of you guys (or Bene) wants to give me one, I'd probably sail her.

Here's a link to Beneteau's website where is shows the boat: Beneteau USA
