The after service from Bavaria is very good (at least in Europe). You have just to have the number of the hull and talk with a dealer (not the manufacturer), preferably a big one. The factory has a complete list of parts used on each boat and at the dealer request can send the right part to you. Parts, like hatches and portholes are made by major manufacturers and you can also order from them.

|fdigiovanni||Thank you Paulo for the information. Although it wasn't a commercial success are there any problems with the design or boat itself. I noticed the hatches all around are of lower quality than I would expect on an Ocean boat. Many are popping out of the frame and only held in by a thin silicone strip. The port lights are all corroding from stainless screws (not even bolts) touching the aluminum frames and there seems to be a significant amount of water intrusion from the deck. I've tried to contact the manufacturer to check on spare parts, gaskets, etc for the ports but no replys after a week. I've also heard the stanchion posts are a potential source or weak link for leaks. Any thoughts are appreciated.|

The Bavaria 40 was an attempt from Bavaria (2003) to have a go on the ocean cruiser market. The Ocean range was quickly discontinued. They found that the charter market was a lot more profitable.
The boat had the same hull as the 40 cruiser, weighted more 400 kg and had an identical keel with more 50kgs, to compensate for the extra weight. The proportion weight/ballast was good (compared to the actual norm on mass production cruiser sail boats) and the boat had a central cockpit that permitted a better boom control.
It carried more 80L of water (380) and more 80L (230) of fuel than the cruiser version and had a bigger engine (55hp). It could come with a furling main (31,7m2) or with a battened mainsail (36,4m2) and a 41,4m2 genoa. That would make it a reasonably fast cruising boat, if compared with Halberg-Rassys and the like, but slower than the cruising version, that had about the same sail area and was lighter.
The boat was not a commercial success (was more expensive than the cruiser) but has a high second hand value and it is rare to find one for sale.

Bavaria Ocean 40 Info?
I've been looking for information on the Bavaria Ocean 40 model and it seems very hard to find. Can anyone help me with learning about this model? Bavaria doesn't even mention it as a previous model on their web site. I currently own a smaller island packet but am interested in the Ocean 40 model. Thank you in advance - any info is appreciated. I thought sail net had closed a while back...glad to see folks posting again.
