merc2dogs November '72 is when they started the 'standardized' hull numbers, prior to that numbers were assigned by the manufacturer as they felt, most started with 1 for the first boat of that model.

For boats built before Nov. 01 1972, best way to determine exact build date or get better information is to locate an owners group online, and check out their database or talk to other owners.

do a google search for hull identification number, and you'll get a few hits to decode the HIN if it's newer than that.

For us older boat owners there's not a lot of usefull information contained in the HIN, my boat's hull number is '707' very little info there, if you didn't see the little Pearson Triton nametags on the coaming boards, you'd never even know what kind of boat it is.

captlar It should be contained in the boats registration number - hull number and year of manufacturer are represented in the ID. You need it more exact ?

Anyone have a suggestion on how I can find out the actual date of manufacture?
