LaLeLu Bayfield owners are fiercely loyal. IMO, they are very well built, Canadian designed, heavy displacement boats with a very salty, traditional hull design. Gozzard designed/built them prior to going out on his own. I think that they are beautiful - but have never personally sailed one.

Bayfield 40

I note that John Neal (Mahina expeditions ) lists the Bayfield as a bluewater capable boat. Never been on a Bayfield 40 tho. I think Seagypsy woman is on a smaller Bayfield but I could be wrong.

In general Bayfields are well respected in this area (North east Atlantic)

Bayfield 40

I have a friend who is looking for a cruising boat and we happened on a Bayfield 40 the other day.
Does anyone have any knowledge of them? They are a beautiful boat with an interesting interior lay-out. With the large head forward and open salon, it looked live-aboard friendly. My initial concern was venelation in the aft berths.
Any thoughts would be welcome before he looks further into this boat.
