We just left Port A, Island Mooring Marina, for Isla Mujeres. If you end up at IM, get used to eating well as Dave at the end of 3 dock cooks about 3-4 nights a week when he's in town. There's a great bunch of people at the marina. Say hi to Dave for us and Jimmy & Libby, also on 3 dock. They are in a 36 Catalina that is for sale.
Enjoy Port A.

Look us up when you get a boat. We are planning on moving our boat from Kemah to Port A tomorrow morning. Monday looks like good sailing but Tuesday looks like light winds. At least the seas look like they will be calm.

We stopped in at Island Moorings at Port Aransas, and it was as Raindog and Allanbc described - nice facilities - and met some really nice people. A Moorings staff lady took pity on two lost wanderers (I assure you we didn't look particularly prosperous) and invited us to a yacht club breakfast and a wild game dinner the next night. Also, two really generous guys took us over their boat details and even recommended a broker. I could have talked with them most of the day, but broke off when I realized they had more work to do.
Mustang/Padre Island tends to be 10°F cooler than the mainland, according to National Park rangers, so I do believe we've found our marina. Now I need to think about a boat.

|Jaywalker||We'll be going down to the gulf Coast in a few days. In addition to the marinas, are there any brokers in the area you can recommend with access to a reasonable number of sailboats? Our trip is basically brom Port Aransas to Brownsville, so we won't make to to Kemah this trip.|

The Port Aransas Municipal Marina would be great but they have about a 1 1/2 year waiting list for 36 foot sailboats right now (was told this on Monday).
There is another small yacht club/marina that belongs to the Padre Island Yacht Club. It is pretty inexpensive even with membership in the Yacht Club. I have a friend moving his boat there from Seabrook. We didn't like it because it is too far from both the bay and the ocean. It is close to the Packery Channel cut but the bridge clearance at Highway 361 is only about 20 feet!!!

|Jaywalker||Thanks, all. We'll be taking the tour of some marinas (and brokers, probably), in January. Your comments will give me some context.|

We are currently in Port Aransas at the Island Moorings Marina. I would highly recommend this marina. It's 25 minutes to Corpus and takes us about 45 minutes to get into the gulf. There is a pool, hot tub, bath houses, laundry, ship store, free WIFI, gated floating docks, water is included in the slip fee however electric is not. The people here are great and there are several live aboards, including us. They are a very social group. We can sail into either Corpus Christi Bay or Aransas Bay in about 1 hour although we prefer the gulf. The rates are very reasonable. Here is a link to their website. CC Municipal Marina
I've keep a boat on G Dock at the CC marina for a year. I am on the Shore Line drive end and agree that its not very private. However, I've never had cause to be concerned about security- my dockmates are very good about keeping the gate closed. The docks on this end float, which is a big advantage with any kind of storm surge (about 3' with IKE). The showers are first rate and are kept clean. The marina employees are always polite and very helpful.
Prior to CC, I kept the boat at Cove Harbor in Rockport. I liked the folks there and really like Rockport better than CC, but the harbor has an industrial dock and my slip shoaled up from the barge traffic. Also, some of the slips have no facilities (no bathrooms).
CC may still have the deal where new slip renters get 4 months free for paying a year in advance.
Hope this helps
