sailingdog Crap.. that's correct... however, there must be some local business that the cruisers awaiting passage frequent. You might have better luck asking on the SSCA website or on Cruisers Forums, as they're likely to have more people actually transiting the canal.

SVAuspicious's suggestion of talking to people at the docks is a good one too.

SVAuspicious You might try walking the docks at Shelter Bay Marina. Even if you don't find a ride there you are likely to find someone who will announce your availability on the radio. According to Noonsite ( http://www.noonsite.com/Countries/Pa...rc=GeneralInfo ) there are cruiser's nets on VHF and SSB. I've found such nets (in other places) to be very useful for connecting people up.

yacht club?

that was our original intention (and what i did last time to get a crew position), however i read online that the panama canal yacht club has been destroyed...what are the other yacht clubs in colon that we would be able to ask around at?
thank you

sailingdog You'd be better off asking at the yacht clubs at either end of the canal. Many yachts will need line handlers for the crossing.

Experienced Panama Canal Crew Available

We have biked all the way from Canada (and are now in Panama!). Our trip has included sailing as well - a great passage between La Paz and Mazatlan, and we would love to end the journey by helping someone get through the Panama Canal.
I crewed on a boat three years ago on its passage through the canal and am keen to do it again. We will be in Panama city in three or four days - if you are going through the canal in the next week and a half and need a couple of extra hands, let us know!
Meredith and Alex
