Re: Considering a '66 Islander 21

Thank you Tom for responding to my question. I really like the Islander 21. It is small but able to pack in so much. This boat comes with a sink, big V birth and seat that can turn into a table. Which boat do you owned? Do you still sail a lot? Again thanks for the info. Hoang

I'd be delighted if nogin answers you, and he may, but I am not sure he is still active. His last post was May 3, 2010.

No doubt you have already discovered that information on Islanders is hard to find. Islander built great boats but the company appears to have been badly run financially. Already financially weak after a move offshore to cut building costs, it succumbed to the disastrous 10% luxoury tax in the late '80s.

In lieu of nogin's answer, I'll point you to Islander information I have found.
  1. First up is this Canadian site that features some good general information: Islander Sailboats. Randall Marquis started the site, but I think Bob Everson has taken it over. It isn't very active but is a good source for older info.
  2. Secondly is the site that, confusingly, is also called Islander Sailboats. It has good general information too, but I thought this one would interest you because it has a good boat owner's list for four different Islander 21 owners with e-mail addresses in mailto: form. Perhaps you could find out more about the boat from them.
  3. Finally, I thought you might be interested in Sailboat Data's general Islander information and Islander 21 Information.

Hope this helps!

Hi, Do you still have the boat. I am looking at one right now 1968 Islander 21. Not too many people have these boats I think. Do you like your boat. Did you have a chance to take her out for sailing? If yes what do you think? I like how small it is and how simple it looks. Thanks,

Considering a '66 Islander 21

I have been considering a sailboat for over a year now and researching and searching seriously for a few months now. I came upon a really neat little 1966 Islander 21 just a few towns over. I went and looked at her and liked what I saw. Can anyone help with how good the construction of these boats are and how well (stable) they sail?
