MacGregor 22: Rocinante
My first boat was an '83 MacGregor 22 and I had a lot of fun with it. Rigging gets expensive. What is this "right price" if I might ask? The book on it isn't worth all that much. I think mine was only insured for 2 1/2K. Nevertheless, a sturdy little boat. I had it out in all weather all the time. I'd still be sailing it if I hadn't sunk it (no fault of the boat- I had no engine and ran her into the rocks in 8 footers). Loved that boat. I recommend redoing all the rigging anyway as I found it awkward. I don't think I had an original piece of hardware at the end.

|OldColumbia||As a former owner of a Macgregor 25, I suggest checking the trailer suspension for rust and bad tires, the centerboard trunk and pivot for cracks and rust, and the clevis pins in the rigging for wear. Otherwise, you get what you pay for.|

Take a good hard look in and out of the water. List everything you would NEED to do (not want to do) to make the boat safely sailable. Price out those items. Multiply by two. Add to purchase price.
Still a good deal? Go for it.

Macgregor 22 purchase
I am now living in the Port Washington area of Long Island and had to leave my boat back in TX.
I took a look at a macgregor 22 recently and well the price is right.
the price, the outboard is old but well maintained, trailer included (everything titled), both main and jib about a year old and look pretty good, rolling furler is simple and in working order, deck hardware old but functioning
as it is a 72 she is not the prettiest gal out there, it has been in the water for a year (winter included) so there is some expected slime buildup, brite work and rigging need some love.
definitely concerns with the standing rigging, the crank and cable to adjust the keel are ready to be replaced, couldnt give it the
my question for all is: anything else about this i should take an extra look at before pulling the trigger? any gotchas or experience with this model?
thanks as always!
