Live Aboard - WNY??

I know it may seem crazy to some of you, but I'm moving to Buffalo, NY this weekend and I was wondering if anyone has any knowledge of Live Aboards on Lake Erie or Ontario or in cold weather areas in general. I don't own a boat yet, but am mulling over a live aboard. I guess I could squeeze in 7 months a year before having to go on the hard. Then the question is what do I do for the other 5 months a year.

Thoughts / Suggestions???

Thanks,
-Ima

Oops

PS - there is nothing crazy about moving to Buffalo.
Oops, didn't mean to sound like the "moving to Buffalo" was the crazy part. I'm excited, I grew up there but haven't lived there since 1988. Finally made it back.

I meant the living aboard in a cold weather city would be the "crazy" part.

So hopefully in my walking the marinas I can find some more "crazies"

There is a lot of nice sailing to be enjoyed in this area, but I don't know of any marinas that stay open in the winter. Most people living aboard sail south for the winter. I'm not sure that it would be a good idea to try and do so, but I wish you the very best of luck.

I've known and know people who live aboard all year in upstate NY. and when I say upstate I mean rochester and syracuse not tarrytown .
they either haul out or "bubble" the boat .
the tough part is finding a marina that will accept you and your boat all year round . Most shut down the ater due to freezing issues. and the bath house may be a bit cool .
finding the right location is key.
