Some Catalinas are notorious for failed chainplates. Actually, they aren't really chainplates at all, they used to use I-bolts and then went with U-bolts.
If they are original to the boat and the boat is more that a decade old and it's been on salt water. Change them. I've seen numerous failures over the years. A few of them lost the entire mast.

Remember any system is only as strong as the weakest link.

steve4643 I did my 22 a few years ago from catalina direct. Everything fit perfectly. I did the shroud kit and the adjustable backstay kit

Standing Rigging

I've just re-rigged my C30 and couldn't believe how everything fit. I sent the old rigging to Catalina Direct and everything came back ready to install. I also replaced the chain-plates and all was priced right and fit great.

dmkey You can buy a kit that comes with a complete set of stays and shrouds with all the required turnbuckles and cotter pins. The kit is custom made for Cat 22, with different kits for different boat vintages. The cost is around $350.

The whole proposition sounds almost too good to be true. I can re-rig my entire boat, no cutting or fitting wires to hardware. Just strip off the old, slip on the new. So I wonder if anyone has gone this route.

Not sure what you are refering to? A kit for one shroud? Or a whole boat? Or?

Has anyone purchased and installed one of these standing rigging kits you can get. It looks easy, and the price is right. Anyone? Thumbs up or thumbs down.
