music2177 livesonjura- i'm seeking passage from sault ste. marie up to thunder bay. i know the prevailing winds are blowing in the opposite direction, but just thought i'd ask if you had any suggestions about places to 'be where the action is' in sault ste marrie or any other advice on catching a boat.

livesonjura Hope-O-Nose doesn't ring a bell, but town of Catskill does.

A person needs to go where the action is to get a ride to L. Superior. People planning a trip come and go, but voyagers are doing it. So, to gsobczynski - get out of Boston and head for Catskill - it's a nice town. Allow about a 3 weeks to get to L. Superior. rick S/V Jura

livesonjura I'm on L. Superior now but traversed the Erie Canal in 2007 to Oswego, NY and then took the Trent-Severn waterway through Ontario to the North Channel and then L. Superior. A sailboat must have the mast removed to traverse these canals. Find out which marinas specialize in mast stepping/lowering, esp. just south of Albany on the Hudson R. then hang out there and hitch a ride to L. Superior. I bet you'll have no trouble getting a lift from there. Sorry, I can't remember the marina I used but it was maybe 20 miles s. of Albany. rick S/V Jura

New England to Great Lakes

Hi all,

I need to make my way from the New England coast (Boston) to the Great Lakes (Superior) by early August.

I'm wondering if any of you are planning on making this trip and are looking for crew.

My departure port and destination port are flexible, as long as I can be in/around Lake Superior by the beginning of August.

If you are making this trip and you need crew, please let me know.
