thanks for the names guys, and no i was not out at that time shawn.
as for the head, it need new seats and valves. the exhaust seat is cracked and eroded as is the valve. the intake "looks" ok but while its in the shop it will get done too.
jones i would love the specs if you can scan them in.

BTDT this spring.
scotty, are you replacing the valves and decking the head, or are you wondering if your valves are within spec and can be reused, along with a seat grind? if you want the angles and specs, I can photocopy my copy of the manual for you and then you can take the head to any automotive machine shop.

Call Bayshore Marine in Annapolis for referral.
Most standard 'automotive machinists' can and do do valve work on diesels ... the profiles and standards for all the 'tapers', face/seat angles, etc . on Yanmar valve systems are all published and easy to follow, and easily accomplished by a competent automotive machinist.
If the engine or head is 'out' and you take it to the machinist ... will probably be the 'most economical .... but you will have to know how to correctly reassemble, etc. to the block.
Get the Yanmar 1GM 'SHOP' or SERVICE manual.

need a good diesel machine shop
okay after a long drama i got the head to my 1gm8 diesel motor back.
now i need a good diesel machine shop with yanmar experience to do a valve job on my head. around baltimore is best and reasonably priced is important too
