Tartan deck replacement
I would be interested in more information on the deck replacement that you did on a tartan.

Tartan 41 1972 keel
I've got hull #20 (1972/73). Which one are you looking at (Marblehead)?
Mine got the retrofit keel (7'2", 9,900 balast) with the tall rig. Even with the original keel I think it would be fine unless you were really pushing it in higher winds with the chute up. These are sweet sailing boats.
I did a major deck re-core etc. if you want any feedback.

I raced Tartan 41's back in the 1970's. Although I had very little helm time on the 41, my sense was that these boats went to weather and close reached extremely well, expecially for that era. Where they got squirely was broad reaching and running, which was a product of the hull shape and rig proportions rather than a keel or rudder issue.

tartan 41 1972 keel?
I'm considering restoring a 1972 tartan 41.
However I found some articles about the keel/rudder
losing manuverability in a close reach. Does any one
have some first hand knowledge of this problem?
I know they came out with a replacement keel.
