323 Hatch

The front hatch is a Bowmar. It IS available from Pompanette. Price is an inch short of a heart attack!

A great welder can weld cast aluminum. I had a TORO cast aluminum lawnmower welded when it found a brick in a neighbor's lawn. It's still holding up perfectly.

If you decide to repair check the lens carefully. Mine has a few cracks around the mounting holes I thought would seal with the silicone. I DO get a few drops in a big rain. Just on my HEAD! There is a company in the magazines that will replace the lens with a new one.

You can cut the LEXAN yourself to make a replacement.

I'd try to repair with replacement as a costly back-up.

Good Sailing in that beautiful 323!!!!!

waterwks4me Thanks for the reply. It is cast aluminum. What worries me is the frame piece holding the hinge as well as the rest of the frame looks porous and brittle looking at the edges of the broken pieces. It broke when someone lost their balance and placed there hand on the open hatch to steady them self. I have number 51 from 1977 so the hatch is 33 years old.

Capnblu Have you heard of a product called alumaweld? Look it up, maybe you can repair yours, if it is a cast aluminum frame.

32-3 hatch replacement

I need to replace my forward hatch on my 32-3. The frame is cracked on either side on one of the hinges. I would love to find an original hatch for the boat if I can find one in good shape. Does anyone have any ideas as to where I can start looking for a used one?
