|Siamese||My Thetford porta potti replaced my china toilet and holding tank system. Total cost of $75.00 four years ago. No repairs, since. No smells. No leaks. Easy to empty (really), easy to winterize...just empty it. And it will take anything you or a passenger throw at it. We find we don't have to empty any more often than we had to have the old tank pumped out. No pumpout charges. Also, easier for passengers to operate. If it ever needs repair, the total repair can never exceed the cost of the unit, at $75.00.|

|arf145||Just throwing in a positive review for the Jabsco. We've had ours for almost 3 years now and it has worked fine.|

|T37Chef||Thanks for the clarification SD, I don't get the twist and lock thing on the jasbco either. I guess I'm just sayin the Jasbco is inexpensive and does the trick rather well IMO, maybe when the pump breaks I'll replace it with the Raritan part LOL|

Nah, don't listen to any of their advice.
You need to buy the Jabsco Quietflush electric head. Best head I have ever crapped in. Plus it has a auto-wipe function: just hold the bowl-fill button down while sitting there. My 6 yo showed me that one. Ahh.... the joys of parenting on a boat.

The twist-lock mechanism is a hackneyed way of solving a non-issue in a better designed head. The Raritan PHC LBA unit is only $220, and not the same thing as the pump you've pointed out. The Jabsco head you're pointing out is $175. For the $45 price difference, I'd recycle the bowl and get the Raritan instead.
A brand-new Raritan PHC head unit is $454...so for $220, you're getting the equivalent of a $455 head that is probably one of the best designed in the business and recommended by Peggie Hall....BTW, the RARITAN Compact II you linked to is not the same thing or in the same league as the PHC/PHII... totally different beasties.

The Raritain is about the same price? When I looked they were almost double the Jabsco? And what makes the Jabsco unit "louzy"...Ive had mine for about three years and it works just fine, probably will need to rebuild it in a year or two but just about any head will need that, no?
No sure how accurate these comparative prices are for the Raritan but...

For another $130 +- the Raritan is most likely the better buy, of course you could just buy the coversion kit as SD mentions, PHII Pump Assembly

Instead of buying a Jabsco, which is a pretty lousy unit by all accounts, I'd get a RARITAN PHC/PHII LBA unit, which is about the same price as the full size Jabsco Twist & Lock and only a little more money than the Jabsco Twist & Lock compact head.
The LBA unit re-uses the bowl off your existing head, and basically gives you a brand new (except the bowl) Raritan PHC or PHII head unit. This head unit is considered one of the best inexpensive manual head units by Peggie Hall, and is a far better unit than the Jabsco.
