I hate it when they do that. *grin* I use radar a lot more coming into anchorages in winter because I can't find the darn lights since they aren't there.

mccary Rhode River has no #1A, so you must mean just outside the entrance to West River. If you mean the 2 small white markers just outside and a bit further out of the 1A I think those are a measured mile marks. And yes, they do make nice shoal markers to fish near.

If you mean inside West River there are Float Free Channel markers that get picked up also.

I don't think this has happened yet, but the Coast Guard removes the lights on the lighted markers on West River about the first of December and replaces them about March 1st. The day marks and the day portion of the lighted marks remain.

mpickering They are marked on the chart as private buoys for a measured 1/2 mile. Maybe the owners picked them up and moved them? Shown as valid May to November. I've never noticed them.

Missing buoys Rhode/West river?

Has any one noticed there used to be two small white buoys just on the right side of Green 1a. They where about 1/2 ml. Away and also a 1/2 ml. Apart. I would use them as guide to cut 1a on my starboard side returning to the Rhode river.
