jrd22 9.9 is pretty big for most small (8-9') inflatables. We have an air floor 10+' with an 8hp two stroke and it's almost too fast. I tried a 9.8 on it and it's scary. Most small inflatables that would be sized right for your 30' boat would only need 3-6hp IMO.

EJO I thought most 10 ft (3.1 m) inflatable can handle a 10 HP. But 9.9 sounds like a 4 stroke which are heavier and as previously mentioned watch the transom weight. I don't think you could find a hard shell dinghy capable of what a inflatable could handle. Also a RIB inflatable wouldn't be as easy to hoist on board. Deflate it and it will easily fit the fore-deck.

Incantation,

If I'm reading between the lines correctly, you already have a 9.9hp outboard and are trying to fit a dinghy to both it and your C30.

How about you go about it another way. Find a dinghy that you are comfortable with in terms of size, weight, handling, etc. Then size your outboard to the dinghy -- if the 9.9 works, great! If not, then swap or sell your 9.9 for an outboard that will fit. I think this approach will be a more suitable one that will pay off in the long run.

tommays You will have to look at the dingys as there are two issues

1. The dingys HP rating

2. The transome weight rating which has become and issue withe 4stroke motors

Greenflash35 Inflatables are light and easy to stow.
