Harborless Yes I think the book WOULD be a good resource for sailors living up past the Carolinas. For those of us in FL and other warmer parts of the world a lot of the books info was not relevant.
I will say this; I now know many many ways to heat my boat safely

TheWhiteRabbit see, now I checked the book out from the library, read it, and liked it so much that I went out to the local Barnes & Nobel and purchased it and read it again! IMO its a great book!

that being said, I will admit that I live in the PNW, so my weather is a lot closer to what the author saw in Boston (although still not as cold) than is Florida's weather.

Book Review

I just finished reading "The Essence of Living Aboard a Boat," and I must say I did not learn much of anything. Being a Florida sailor I found the book to be predominately for those sailors in cold-weather climates.
If you are thinking of living aboard a boat in warm climates I would not recommend you buy this book. On the other hand, if you are going to be living aboard in cold climates it could be very helpful for you.
Just wanted to save a few dimes if I could, I know they are hard to come by these days.

If I had to go on the 1 to 5 stars rating guide I would give it a 2.
