Oday 40

Hi John,

I read you have Oday 40 owners' contacts.
I am looking to buy one of these boats, a long keel version in good condition . Do you know about some for sale, others than those listed on yachtworld.com?
Thanks for your help.

robob353 I understood that O'day purchased the molds from jeanneau but the boats were built by O'day in Mass. They compare quite favorably to Hunters or beneteaus of the same time. Very solid rig, hull layup, all around well built boats.

blt2ski IIRC the boats talked about are Jeanneau's brought over by O'Day or built over here in the states, but a Jeanneau Sunn Fizz design. One can find some more info at www.jeanneau-owners.com too!

smackdaddy How would you guys compare the build quality of the 39 with a Hunter or Bene? Is it a composite hull below the waterline?

O'Day seems to always get lost in the brand discussions, but I've seen some favorable comments about them from more racer-oriented sailors.

Oday 39 and 40's

Thanks for all your responses. So far I have been able to account for 13 O39's and 14 O40's. I have personally met 7 of these owners and spent time on their boats.

So far I have hulls #17 thru 106 in the 39's and 131 thru 193 in the 40's. I am guessing that there was approximately 200 of our style boats made.

For all the doubters of the Oday line that may stumble across this post I would like to add that my wife and I have put over 15,000 miles behind us in the past three years. We have sailed the Great Lakes, the East Coast from the Keys to Martha's Vineyard and made two trips to the Bahamas. We are landlocked for a year but will set out for the Caribbean in 2012.

Great boat!

O Day 39 Owner

We have O Day 39 number 81 1984 that we bought March 2006. Now named Dror, was Sparrow.

Great Boat, have spent 4 years unmuddling it.

Numerous projects including large holding tank, solar panels, refrigeration, new water heater, new cushions, track on mast for spinnaker pole, new standing and running rigging, lifelines, windlass and more.

Also stripped the bottom and epoxy coated last spring.

Happy to help with advice. jack@greatboatgear.com

Have just started a sailing Blog Welcome

So far only has solar panels but working on the rest.
