redline After the not-quite-12v model I bought was stolen last winter, I finally found a manufacturer-refurb Haier HLC24XSL2 via Amazon. 24" with a built-in DVD, LED backlight, uses an external AC supply and is happy running directly on ship's 12V. I also have a Carnetix 12v-12v power supply for good measure, but not yet installed.

boatpoker 20" "Insignia" LCD TV with built in DVD player from Future Shop. Came with a 120V to 12V transformer. I cut off the transformer, wired it directly to DC and it works perfectly. Did exactly the same thing with two previous TV's and never had a voltage problem.

I looked into it, and just went with a 110V 19" Emerson from Walmart, for $96. If I want to use it on the hook I'll just get an inverter. I'll need one anyway, for the Blu-ray player.

Bene505 Bump.

I'm planning to upgrade our little flatscreen to something bigger this spring. Anything new on the 12v LEC TV front?

Any news on how the earlier poster in this thread did?

Regards,
Brad

I'm looking for a quality 12-volt powered, 20-22" LCD TV/DVD monitor, preferably with decent stereo sound, to mount on a salon bulkhead.
Google for a Haier HLC24XSL2 available at/via Amazon, among others. 24" with a built-in DVD, LED backlight, uses an external AC supply for its 12V input.

Long story, I ordered one early last summer but after numerous delays cancelled that and ordered what I thought was the replacement model, and HLC24XK2 - which is almost identical except for... an internal AC supply. I bought the service manual hoping to bypass the supply but while its logic card does run on 12V, the backlight supply is 17V. I am thinking of ordering the XSL2 and finding a place for the XK2 at home.

Nice TV in other respects, HDMI and VGA input (which repeats my Raymarine E120 nicely). The speakers are a bit small and buzzy on heavy bass, but it has audio line outputs for an external supply. Geeky feature of dubious usefulness - you can show photos from a USB memory stick, and even record/pause live digital TV to the USB memory, sort of a mini-DVR.

There are 19 and 22" models as well.

QuickMick just curious, if you are looking at 20 inch screens isnt your laptop about that big? thats what i use... anyway those hdmi cables seem to be all over?
edit: i just run pulg from the headphone out jack to my boat's stereo to get the sound, and if you want tv you can hook up this, it works fine (i get about 5 channels: and an additional 15 spanish/10 religious) lol. combined with an hd antenna... i didnt even spring for the 'powered' version

Secondly, anyone found a marine quality HDMI cable longer than 3 meters? My run to the nav station is closer to 18' when routed.
You can get good high quality HDMI cables from Monoprice.com for much less than in the stores. I've bought many a cable and adapter from there; they have a great selection of things electronic, and I've always got my orders quickly.

Just looking real quickly I see they have a 20' 22AWG CL2 high speed HDMI cable for $20.08. A 25' cable goes for $23.36. Way cheaper than Best Buy or wherever. If all you need are small ones they have 1.5' cables for $1.89. Can't beat their prices.
