aquaman9 Thanks for the pictures. I showed my wife some pictures of another family doing the same thing up north and she said that I wouldn't last a month. Where do you plan on spending next winter? You must have some Bahama pictures hung next to the bed. Good luck.

NightWing And.. I wish I got some Xmas lights up too.
That would have been fun but they wouldn't have made it
through that storm on the 26th - 27th.
I was at the GFs and decided I should go baby sit my boat
Sunday afternoon. It didn't get my attention until about 6pm.
Good thing I was here.

See if I can get this image thing to work..

NightWing Hey Brad. Thanks for the link to your post.
I'm not sailing so I have everything winterized.
I wont be going anywhere until I pull the boat out as
early as I can and get a lot of chores done.
I'm hoping for mid April.
I'm all set with Main and jenny. Both brand new.
Short a spinnaker but have limited resources and lots of
other stuff on my shopping list.
Meanwhile...un-like you I'll actually post a couple of pictures.

Bene505 We have ice eaters around us. Check out this thread, post #32. I was at the boat on the 26th, that same blow you were in. Only I think you got it much worse as I was southwest of you.

Just saw there are a couple main sails for a Catalina 30 on eBay right now, expiring soon: Main sail for 1983 Catalina 30 sailboat. - eBay (item 160536171534 end time Feb-01-11 11:19:59 PST)

Looks like he's parting out a boat, check out his other auctions: tharv11 items - Get great deals on Parts Accessories items on eBay Motors!

His shipping is astronomical, but he's within driving distance, over in PA.

NightWing Hey, hi Brad.

Lake Montauck huh... Ha.
I am thinking of heading that way instead of BI more this summer.
So are you frozen in around the hull??
01-31-2011 04:48 PM
NightWing Oh yea! No problem. Hardest winter I've ever seen here. Temps down below zero. Lots of snow. But I'm comfy cozy and loving it.
It was hellatious the Sunday after Xmas. Big winds had me on deck every few hrs tying something better or figuring out what the new sound was or getting the fenders back off the dock. I've reconfigured things and hoping the next big blow wont be a threat to the boat. I did have reports of 70-80mph. Noreasters ... pretty much a New England winter hurricane.
Other than that it's just keeping an eye on the bubelers and hoping we don't get 2 many single digit nights in a row. Wind and ice, my 2 enemies. I should post some pictures.
I'm living large otherwise.
I'm getting which project to start 1st. figured out. With the clear tent over the hull it's dam warm on deck if it's 35 and sunny. Kinda gets ya thinking about sand paper.

Thanks for checking in w/ me.

Bene505 Can't believe I missed this thread!

Great job living aboard.

I kept our Beneteau in the water this winter so I could sail. Put in a good run of sailing sessions too. Now we have 4 inches of ice in the "fairway" out to the entrance, so I'm in lay-up mode at the dock. (Cheaper insurance since I'm not sailing her for a defined period.)

Like you, there's never anyone around when I go out to sail. Saturdays, Sundays, evenings the place is deserted. I've only seen a very few people all winter at the marina.

Netflix and Pinot -- LOVE IT!!

Keep up the great work and stay warm. Visit us in Lake Montauk this summer.

carl762 Well, there's been some very interesting heavy weather in the last month. You still at it?

Hey HD

Thanks for keeping an eye on me HD

Pretty sleepless 48hrs. behind me.
Nasty little low hung around the east end of
Long Island about 20 mi. directly south of me.
It delivered a steady 40mph with gusts above 50
for the last 2 days. I was up on the icy deck every couple of
hours for one thing or another. The main problem is I'm
tied to the floating docks in back but the bow is tied to
pilings. ?he tide fall is about 6 feet so in order to have enough
slack in the line the bow comes too close for comfort to the
leeward piling when it really gusts up. Then there's the problem
with my fenders popping up onto the dock and leaving my gelcoat to be chewed by the pressure treated wood.

Oh well. My little pal has moved off to the N. and E so I'll
get a good nights sleep and some real good weather coming in
so I can get ready for the next 6-8 storms due this winter.
Nor'easters frequently blow 70mph. I'm thinking maybe install a massive
bow cleat backed up by a huge 2x6, more fenders/ with bricks tied to them?
yo ho ho!!!
