hi i have a mac 21 and i am about to undergo a rebuild! which includes re finishing and patching and ultimately painting the hull. i have heard that one can that the boat apart (separate hull from deck) are there any opinions or recommendations on the subject?
thanx
if your boat has an aluminum /rubber rubrail you can (carefully), pull out the rubber and unscrew the aluminum pieces. then you can probably cut the deck off with a sabresaw. obviously this is getting into a major rebuild and should only be done indoors. I am parting out a mac/venture 22. I have all the hard parts for sale best offer, mast, boom, keel, pop top, stanchions etc. also trailer. cleveland ohio call 4407770375 10am to 10 pm est. good luck
This is a little off subject but have you looked at the book "fix it and sail." Its about a guy that bought a Mac on the cheap and completely restored it. It's meant for anyone who is rehab'n and old trailer sailer but goes into a lot Mac specific details.
I wrote earlier about separating with a saw. this is wrong. I believe the deck is capped over a lip on the hull. after the rubrail is off you would have to seperate the two using a chisel etc. lots of work ad you probably do damage. most macs that need this much work end up scrapped.
