Minnewaska Izzy..... you're right. A $40 solution almost sounds too good to be true.

Southshore..... if I hadn't found the fender, that would have been exactly what I was looking for. Thanks.

Chef...... Thanks for the idea. The pushpit braces and backstays guide it all the way to the lowest horizontal part of the transom. I don't think the webstraps would hold it off the paint at the bottom and wouldn't help when boarding or returning.

chef2sail Make two detachable 1 inch webstraps which can be connected on one end with plactic snap or to an eye hook at the far end of each side of the steps at the bottom of the transome after the bottom step, clip the the other end of the webstap to your stern rails. Pull them taunt with adjustable slides. Your dinghy bottom will be guided to the water instead of the scoop. When the dinghy is stowed. simply detach and store in lazzarette. Will take two minuytes to set up when lowering dingy and since you have those nice steps...easy to do also

southshoreS24 i was going to suggest something like the bumper guards you see on cars in urban areas. but that seems like one already made for a boat.

Izzy1414 Only 40 bucks?!! That's nearly free in boat dollars! Looks like a good solution ... protects exactly the area you're concerned with, should stay in place and stow nicely .... win, win, win. Good luck.

Minnewaska Thanks Izzy. Regular fenders roll out of position too easily and also create a larger step from the dink back aboard. When lowering from the davits, anything too big just prevents it from lowering at all. I think I may have found the solution in this. I may require a little modification to sweep the curvature, but I think it will work.

Izzy1414 Don't know what all you've tried but it looks like a spare regular fender tied off of each of your pushpit braces at the right height would do the trick. Maybe tied together at the bottom to keep them at the correct angles and in place and keep them from spreading. I'm coming at this from the standpoint that you'll want to try simple solutions that don't involve much in the way of extra gear that you have to stow when not in use.

Minnewaska It's really just the bottom horizontal part of the transom scoop that is the issue. There are pushpit braces and the backstays that is slides down until that point. Same part of the transom that the dinghy knocks into. Of course, if the engine gets turned around, that can be a disaster (and it happened once).

Izzy1414 I wonder for your davit drop, if you could quickly rig some simple lines from your davit arms to your transom for the dinghy to slide down to the water.

Yes, I think I'm going to wrap bicycle handlebar tape around the d-rings, or some such padded tape. Although, that doesn't really solve the problem of the dinghy sliding down the transom when lowered from the davits.
