Does anyone have information on a source for the rectangular side cabin windows for a Newport 30?...Went up to the boat this weekend and two of the four windows were leaking like a sieve. I think I got one fixed, but the plastic on the other was too brittle to save as it kind of disintegrated when I removed it.
Thanks

There are companies that can custom make any shape/size portlight frame and lens you might want.. That would be the best solution but not necessarily the most cost effective.

Unlikely you'll find a source of identical replacements anywhere else, though.

You could change to screw/bolt/glue on acrylic ports attached to the outside of the cabinsides, the sealant Dow Corning 795 has proven effective with this type or installation. It would require you to make a trim ring for the inside to look nice, but it also allows you to update the look a bit as you could design a more contemporary portlight shape.

Mark Plastics in Corona, CA is the OEM producer of the Newport/Gulf portlights. You can order direct fit replacements.

A couple of thoughts ...

Mark Plastics is not the OEM for Newport 30 aluminum framed windows. I have talked to Mark and he does have templates to produce replacements using a composite frame rather than aluminum.

Determine where your windows are leaking from. There are two sources, the bedding between the aluminum frames and coachhouse in which case the windows can be removed and re-bedded, or seal between the gasket and glass within the frame. In this case if you can find replacement gasket, I haven't looked, the window can be dismantled and the glass resealed with new gasket. Or even better ...

A tip from Mark is to take a razor blade and carefully cut away the gasket by slicing perpendicular to the inside of the frame, clean thoroughly, mask the glass a 1/4" inch from the frame for easier clean-up and lay a new bead of Dow 795 around the inside of the frame effectively making/resealing the gasket.

Managed to temporarily stop mine from leaking...the problem is the original plastic is all eaten un from UV exposure and very brittle...I tried to gently pry one away from the cabin and ended up breaking the outer plastic frame, or rather it sort of disintegrated...I am going to do the dark plastic replacement over the winter and see how it works...
